Sudden cardiac death

Sudden cardiac death is sudden death from a cardiac cause beginning with an abrupt loss of consciousness. Coronary artery disease and manifestations of coronary artery disease are responsible for large majority of individuals with sudden cardiac death. In certain individuals a sudden onset of chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, or other symptoms of arrhythmia can precede the onset of cardiac arrest.
