Chest Pain
Chest pain may be secondary to blockages of the blood vessels going to the heart. It can be described as both typical and atypical. The quality of discomfort can be described as pressure or burning that can also occur as jaw pain, indigestion, or back pain. The location can vary in regard to these different qualities of discomfort. Chest discomfort that is suggestive of a blocked artery should be attended to in an urgent matter if there is any doubt as to the etiology of this chest discomfort. Chest discomfort in women may have atypical characteristics such as shortness of breath or fatigue. Evaluation by a cardiologist along with appropriate testing can help in the diagnosis of underlying coronary artery disease.
